Yeah my 850R odo stopped working around 200k according to the previous owner so km's unknown at this point. The car is a restoration project so it probably is best just to get the new engine and keep the old as a spare. Yeah its an auto but at this point i have decided not to mod it terrible. Its a 1997.

Hi Kuda,
just reading your last post about your engine..if it was down to me I would pull the Engine out, & get a replacement one for the time been
then that way you could rebuild the old one, I would love a project like yours & would be in no hurry to get it finished..my 850R is my daily driver so most of the mods on there have to be done within a couple off days so Im not left without a Car..hope this help
Cheers Vol.

Hi Kuda, sounds like its going to be a gr8 project..& like you said saving will be a Big factor..I wish I had another daily run around I would put the 854R in a garage & start from scratch remember to take lot of pics & start a New project thread also..fingers crossed every thing goes well
Cheers Vol.
Cheers Vol.
Thx Vol
Wish i had the space to do everything myself. But on closer inspection nr 3 & 4 sparkplugs are wet. Burnt or chipped valves probably. I know i am going to drive this car daily, lol, so just as well do the engine swap, brand new engine still in its crate not to be wasted

It has a fresh paint job because it was hit in the side in January, so when they repainted the fender & door, the color didn't match so they repainted the car. 2600 bucks of body work for freeeeee! lol

Like how mine had 141k in 2005 and still has 141k today, though the odometer works when it was sold to me LOL
I've only had it for a month and I'm very happy with it
got it for $1200

Hi,
Thought I would make my 1st thread my build with Photos. I have always wanted an Volvo 850R. Got paid out with my Long service pay and thought now is the time to buy it and spend sometime making it right, as the previous owner let some maintenance thing slip by.
I purchase the black 1997 850R last November 2012 for $4500 AUS and had a list in my head of what I wanted to do. The car has a good strong engine, only done 165,000kms. Gearbox was rebuilt 12 months earlier because lack of oil changes. It has a good service history supplied with the car but they neglected to chage the gearbox oil. Why , I have no idea. The rest of the car was clean but not to my standard, which I have been told is OCD.
Having money left over and the Aussy dollar buying you more in America I tried to purchase parts all at once.
1.New dual exhaust from Jetex.
2.Replaced new suspension front and back from FCP.
3.New sports springs from IPD.(sits better now)
4.New oil cooler lines from FCP.Leaking
5.New brakes- 302mm groove and slotted disks on front - grooved and slotted disks on back and new pads all round.
6.Replaced with new PCV system from IPD.
7.Replaced front seat leather and alcantra seat covers from Elwood industries (they fit brilliant and easy to do) as they were cracked.
8. Replaced gear **** and handbrake handle with OEM leather.
9. Replaced stereo with touchscreen, GPS and rear camera.
10.Carbon fibre rear plate trim.
11.Rear mudflaps
12.New rear chrome badges.
13.Replaced centre console as the back was broken.
14.Replaced floor mats as there weren't any.
15.Carbon fibre plug cover and throttle body cover.
16.Egg crate chrome and black grill with R emblem.
17.Replaced oil, Coolant and brake fluid with quality brands.
18.Replaced Coolant hoses as they were perishing and starting to weep.
I have been slowly replacing things to try to bring it back to new. I wanted to freshen up the car and make it a bit more modern but still maintain that 850R look. I will also be using this offen on weekends. I have a cheap hale damaged car to go to work in so it wont do to km's. I still have somethings to do but that,s the fun of having it and as I find things broken or wearing out I replace them.
I loved car so much I have also now purchased 1996 Volvo 850R wagon in White. I understand that in Australia there are only a few white ones and my goal is to restore this over the next few years. I want to pull this one completely apart and do a full on restoration.
I'll update as the car evolves.
