hi, so i decided to change my oil today and the last time i changed it i was able to see the oil filter, unscrew it without a problem and put a new one back on. But to my suprise today i go and see something big and bulky sticking out from underneath. its a crazy contraption there is no place on it that it splits from the oil filter. my mechanic i think put a device on and i dont know how to take it off, anyone know what i should do or what this thing is??? i didnt tell him to put it on at all. he did put a newer radiator in my car from a 97 volvo 850 wagon and he mightve added this part to my car. what should i do?

Take a pic and post it so when the pros get on they can troubleshoot with more accuracy for you.

 

ask your mechanic, sound like maybe he added an oilcooler that routes differently from your original one.

 

If you are able to, take a pic. and post it. We might be able to better help you.

 

My 850 lists a spin on filter or a cartridge filter for a canister? I have never seen a canister style but maybe they changed it to one.?

 

Man, that is nuts. Why would he do that? Hopefully you did not drain the oil yet.
