Oil issue - hard to track down
So today I was up at a junk yard in Kalamazoo MI getting an A/C condenser for my 94 855. while i was there, i also snagged what appeared to be an almost new PTC off an 850 turbo. I pulled my old PTC out when i got home and noticed that the intake tube had a fair amount of oil in it. I just did the PCV system about 600 miles ago, so i dont know where this could be coming from. If you have read my posts here, my car smokes - sometimes a lot - at idle. I have GREAT compression on all 5 cylinders that does not drop off at all, and I'm out of guesses as to how the oil is getting in there. Anyone have any clues? Help!

Didn't you just rebuild your turbo? If not the turbo, then most likely the rings. When does it smoke (white smoke is oil)? After you get on it and then decelerate? Or when you first start it after its been sitting?
BTW: good compression does not necessarily mean the oil control rings are sealing...

not doing it overnight. not really at any specific time that I can nail down. Sometimes it doesnt smoke at ALL, and sometimes it smokes like im crop dusting. there seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason to it. And I dont think it's rings, because im finding oil in the air intake tube BEFORE the turbo. Pretty sure that some of the oil in there is getting sucked in and thats what's burning off. The only possible place it is coming in from is the PTC, especially since it appears that most of the oil is sitting below that. The oil in the intake tube makes me believe that it is not ring related or turbo related. But....i just did my PCV system like 600 miles ago, so it really shouldnt be that either, right?
