Question Oil Leak, 1997 850 Turbo

Hello all: I have developed a major oil leak, front passenger side of engine.
I believe two cooling lines to the radiator connect there but they are hard to see.
Anybody know the official name of the lines and or part #'s? I want to order both
new hoses and what ever is needed for full connector replacement. Looks ot be a
major job just getting at those thngs.

Thanks for any advice!

can you supply a picture of the area that you suspect the leak is coming from? might help in the diagnosis. It's extremely hard to diagnose an oil leak by discription only, but it sounds like you may be talking about the oil cooler lines, but I'm not sure.

agreed oil leak identification is pain in the butt! i had a pretty bad one it was coming from camshaft seals, if you not sure where exactly it is coming from i would pull timing belt cover off and look there first before ordering parts.
good luck and hope you solve your oil issue!

You need to look at some common locations, do some research but here some suggestions.

If the PVC or PTC is clogged then oil is squirting violently from under the oil cap and other places under high pressure. it's easy to tell.

oil filler cap - oil on top of engine, oil stains in the the black insulation under the hood. Probably from PVC or PTC

dipstick - oil is running down the dipstick pipe, splattered all around the opening. 2 min job

oil cooler lines - oil running down radiator and the black lines. oil spray on the passenger side behind radiator. half hour job

rear cam seals - oil from under and behind the distributor and general side of engine. hear its easy and remove/ replace

Oil pan - leaks developing around the edge of the oil pan seal. time consuming job

Turbo oil pipes - oil coming from behind engine dripping down turbo. Either from the return line pipe, or the intake oil line. Seal on the oil return pipe to block tends to go bad. A half hour job

front cam seals - oil is leaking from side of the engine, from under the timing belt cover. pretty bad

Rear main seal - Oil is leaking out from between the transmission to engine joint. Don't quote me here, just google some pics. The worst

My daughter's S70 is dumping oil out of the front - aft cam seal. How hard is it to replace those? Do I need to worry about timing jumping?

use white out to mark everything. and then mark one screw hole to the corresponding screw. That way when it goes back on you can re-time it and avoid problems.

I think you know more about it than me
