Default oil leak - compressor side of turbo

Any common culprits for a leak on the compressor side? There is not a bunch of excess oil in the intake tract, and the turbo drain is nice and dry/clean.

is it an o-ring/rubber type seal, or just use some high quality RTV/Silicone?

n/m, found it, and luckily the autozone down the street had one in stock. Cleaned up most of the mess of oil, find out in a bit if that solves the issue for me.

ok, still haven't solved the oil leak. The cam seal was leaking a small bit, so I know that is not contributing anymore with the new seal in there, but I still have a leak somewhere.

Here's a pic of the area where I can see everything soaked in oil. Unfortunately there's so much crap in the way I can't see where the drip is coming from. :\

also, got a clear look at the oil inlet on the turbo today, it is also clean and dry.

what you need to do is clean the crap out of it with brake cleaner and/or degreaser, then go drive it for a few minutes....hard. then pull it back in the garage and the leak will probably be a lot easier to find.

Your oil pattern looks a lot like mine. I traced my oil drip back to the front of the engine, that is within the timing belt cover. I have not had time to look any further but I think the front crank seal is leaking, the oil is coming out the back of the cover and ending up along the turbo when it is not dripping onto the sub frame.

In my case, there is also oil coming from a drain hole between the rear of the engine and the transaxle housing. Hopefully a PCV replacement will reduce some of the excessive pressure and hold off replacing the seals a bit longer.

I think that my rear main might be leaking, went for a 'spirited' drive around the neighborhood, pulled the car up on the driveway (steep driveway FTL), and immediately had a dollar-bill sized puddle on the concrete. Jacked up the passenger side, and started the car, then crawled underneath. Watching the side of the flywheel (just behind the intermediate drive shaft), I could see bits of oil accumulating. No oil was coming out of the weep hole at the bottom of the bell-housing, but that is likely due to how steep the driveway is, and that the car was jacked up. After seeing this, it makes sense to me that oil is being flung around by the flywheel, dripping onto the spinning driveshaft, and then being further flung around the backside of the engine. Would be a good reason the bottom side of the compressor is covered.

Well, replaced the rear main seal this last weekend. That was the culprit for sure, inside the bellhousing was a mess.

For anyone considering doing this job, having just completed it, I would pay for a shop to do it, rather than go through that hell again.
