OMG! the volvo dealership told me that they only sold 2 volvo 850 t5R!!! a red one and a yellow one!! What price am i looking at now since they are only 2?

 

Ive decided that if the lady wont sell the car cheap to me, i will just get an 850 T5 and put a 17PSI power chip from speedtuning and i will get 275Hp or even more

 

Maybe only that dealer ever sold 2.

Alot more were made then 2 of them.

There is alot more of the T5R's out there than the 1997 R model.
There was I think about double of the T5R's made then Just the R's
Alot of them are only marked as the T5. But they have the R bumper and the higher Boost as well.

 

You will need more than a re-programmed ECU to get the power that you are searching for. You will need a 3 inch exhaust with free-flow cat and free-flow muffler.

Forget about the Yellow T5R. You can find a nice 850-Turbo (later renamed as 850-T5) for much less. With the money you save, you will be able to purchase more go-fast parts.

 

Oh, so if i get the chip for the car, i would need to upgrade the exhaust also?

 

The chip will work by itself. BUT you will gain the most from doing the exhaust as well.

 

Oh ok, so what exhaust would i need? also, if i get the 850 T5 and i just put the chip without the exhaust, what improvement am i looking at? and with the exhaust?

The chip will give you gains, but you will get more with a 3" downpipe and a 2.5" high flow catback system added with the ECU upgrade. Also before you do anything to your car. Please go over to Volvospeed and become a member. Look up what STAGE 0 is and do all of that before you start to mod your car. It is worth while and a good thing to do.

 

Thanks for all the info, but i will just order the chip 17PSI and install it as the first step, my friend installed one on his 850 and he noticed the boost, so ill just do that as a first step, maybe in a future ill install the exhaust

And, the volvo dealership ONLY sold those 2 R'S! Im talking about the 850 R, and the 850 T5-R..they only sold those 2 cars, and thats the ONLY dealership for volvo here in Panama, so there are only 2.

 

Don't buy a ST chip! Especially since you're not in the US market. The ST chip is for US spec cars only unless you deal with Speedtuning Europe, who might just direct you back to Speedtuning USA anyways. The problem is that your car most likely will not have a rear o2 sensor, EGR equipment, or air pump equipment. The ST chip is programmed for all of these and will set a check engine light and limit boost to 5 psi when it realizes that it is not receiving signals from them. I've seen this happen to someone outside the US market who went through speedtuning. ST also has horrible customer service and will not give you a refund without a fight, if they give you a refund at all. Not to mention the fact that the ST chip has very poorly programmed fuel maps. While on the dyno, we tested my friend's 850 turbo w/ his stock ECU and then w/ my speedtuning ECU. They're the exact same model and year of car btw. His car lost nearly 20 hp w/ the ST chip despite the increase in boost. That's when I sold the piece of crap. Look into BSR or TME tuning.

 

Well thanks for the info, but the car is US specs, even my 1995 volvo 940 is US specs, so that wouldnt be a problem, what are those pages you provided? BSR? TME? what are those

 

How can i know if my car has US specs or what? because we do not have Latin Specs, either we bring cars with European specs or US specs.

 

If the Speedo is in Miles then it should be U.S. specs.

 

My 940 has the speedo in miles(and in smaller letters it has it in km), the 850 has the speedo in kilometers(i think, not sure), what does that mean?

 

It is either a Eurepean or Canadian spec car.

I just found an 850 GLT from 1995, for 3k, supposedly the car is in good condition but im not sure i want a GLT, i mean 3k is a good price but i prefer to wait for a T5
