Default operating temp

I have a question, i have a 95 850 turbo wagon, after it warms up the temp gauge always stays slightly above the middle of the gauge and doesnt move, is that normal? also sometimes when driving it smells warm but the gauge seems to still be in the middle and the fan kicks on periodically

Mine does that too and I was just wondering the same. I noticed that the paint on my hood is blistering and was wondering if my engine was getting hot enough to do that. Mine also rides just over the halfway mark.

Mine stays in the middle. If you hook a scanner up to it and check the temp while it's running, it will tell you the operating temp. I have a Scanguage II and I have it hooked up to my 960 with one of the indicators on temp at all times.

You should be running under 210 degrees I believe. It is possible that someone installed a thermostat that is rated a little higher. I think mine runs between 193 and 215.

As with most european cars, the temp needle is usually just past half mark.
You dont need to worry at all until the needle is within a quarter of reaching red. If you want to try a cheap fix, then go get an oem thermostat for around $18
2 torx screws hold on the cover.

Better yet put a 180 t-stat or lower.STANT makes them for under $10

My temp gauge never has gone past the middle.
