Default OVERHEATING

So I go and buy my first 850 with only 76,000 miles on it. Its a 96 turbo. So when driving it home from Phoenix toLas Vegasthe car starts to overheat. I had to turn on the heater full blast to relieve the heat from the engine compartment. So my question is what could it be? or does this model tend to overheat. Any suggestions please. I am worried i bought a lemon.
Thanks Rob

- Low coolant or coolant mixture too rich.
- Thermostat either stuck closed or stuck full-open.
- Electric cooling fan inoperative.
- Low engine oil.
- Internally clogged radiator due to neglect.
- Incorrect ignition timing-ECU related.

A nice cold Bud might fix the problem.

I had a similar problem twice. The first time my electric cooling fan was frozen and wouldn't even turn by hand. The second time the wires/contact on the relay was bad. If your standing in front of the bumper, the relay is on the left under the black cover over the radiator.

My guess is a bad Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. The hissing sound on the right hand side might be your secondary air pump if you have one.

You could change the ECT sensor and the thermostat yourself just to make sure that they are ok. The parts are cheap!

I think I found the problem. Got myself a new thermostat from autozone and pulled out the old one. The old one was broken. But one of the screws was so stuck and I striped it so I had to grind it down. I was able to get the rest of the screw out, but will have to get anew screw tomorrow to see if the overheating problem is fixed.

I replaced those damn torx screws with hex bolts when I changed my thermostat the last time. Those torx screws are pain in the butt. My son in law (the mechanic) busted his thermostat housing the other night when he tried to get those screws out. He tried using an impact screw driver. Boy did I get on his case. We just bought a new casing from Erie Volvo for $35.00 and it came with both the top and bottom piece, a new thermostat and the temp sensor. What a deal.
