Overheating problems
Hi all,
Having some more issues with my 850, driving it for 5 minutes the heat goes half-way. It appears the radiator fan isn't spinning (replaced this one a little over a year ago, radiator, radiator fan, thermostat and heater core were done within 3 months of each other about a year ago). I've replaced the coolant sensor yet it still happens. Suspect the relay is at fault although I don't believe it would still cause it to heat up as much so quickly.
Any thoughts? Maybe the water pump also needs replacing or something?
Cheers

If you're saying it gets to the normal temperature in five minutes, then mine does it faster than that. I think it's great in the winter.
The fan should only be spinning when the engine computer wants it to, so that is sort of dicey to troubleshoot. You don't want it to get hot, certainly. One good episode of overheating and generally they're ruined. I guess you could trip the relay as if you are the ECM and see if that turns it on. Air conditioning should turn it on.

As long as it stays within the normal range you are fine. How quickly it gets there is not a huge issue. It only becomes a problem if it goes past the halfway mark and into the uppper end of the gauge, then you are overheating. Check to see if you have enough coolant in the system if you are concerned.
