Default P0440

So my friend scanned my 850 and the P0440 code came up which is the Evaporative Emissions failure code. Has this ever happened with anyone else? If so what was the solution and could I possibly get pictures of where everything would be located? I already did the gas cap check and we cleared the check engine light and it hasn't come back on since. I'll feel pretty stupid if that's all it was, lol.

Always start with year and mileage of your car... helps me anyways... I'm used to seeing a 3 digit trouble code along with which port it had been read from. I don't recognize the "P0440" code myself. Having said that, if it's with the PCV system, I'd reset the system and drive for a week or two and then re-read the codes to see if it comes back. I am saying this because you are talking only of a single code that you have read, and am assuming you aren't having any sort of a driveability problem.

It is an EVAP malfunction code. Ususally it comes back to the purge valve. Make sure your gas cap is tight and reset the code before you do anything.

See attached for possible cause. OBD-I is available only for '93-'95 models.

I hope this is of some use.

It sounds like it was the gas cap. I would see about changing the seal on the cap sometime soon.....just in case

We reset the codes and the Check Engine light still hasn't come back on. I'll drive it for a few more weeks plus put gas in it see if it comes back on. Also, would the PCV valve have anything to do with coolant leaking?

You don't have a PCV valve per se. You havea PCV system. The Volvo engineers worked overtime to make a very simple concept insanely complex.

The short answer to your original question is no. The PCV and a coolant leak are not at all related.

That is a good one it made me laugh!!!
