Default P0705 Has got me stumped

Good Evening Folks. Long time listener first time caller, and would greatly appreciate any input or thoughts you guys and gals have. So the car is a 97 N/A and it's throwing a P0705 (range sensor/PNP Switch) The thing is it's not the switch and I am stumped. Heres a little backround. switch had been failing for a couple of years. Only ever experienced problems if I accidently hit the winter button. Nothing that shift roll didn't sort out and since it never threw a CEL/MIL never paid it no mind. Well, had emissions coming up and cleaned up other varios codes. And was in the process of resetting the monitors when the car was put in low(dont ask) the trans went limp mode and CEL came up. P0705 Shift roll cured the limp mode and made the arrow go off, but the CEL would not go away. So I broke down and replaced the switch with a new one. Car drove great and problem with the winter button was fixed. Yet the CEL was still on. After aligning realigning and pulling my hair out. I got another switch (On the off chance the new one was defective) Put in new switch, still throwing P0705. What the hell could it be? I read an old post where a guy that had the same issue, cllaimed flushing the tranny fixed it. But I don't see how thats even plausable. The car shifts fine, selector is fine, sport/econ/winter button is fine. I have reverse lights. So whats the deal guys. Anyone know where else I should look.
Thanks. I can't express how greatful I am for any feedback

A silly thing, but are you clearing the codes after replacing the switch? It won't just go away if you fix the problem, it is a hard code, it will stay there until it is cleared by a scan tool.

Hey Brick. Yep that did it. I wouldv'e never hought that having the battery disconnected for 16 hours wouldn't have reset that code. But you were right my man. If your ever coming through Arizona, I owe you some beers.
Thanks

Being Back a old Post:

I have a 97 850GLT Turbo

I have the same problem but can't clear the code with a "Cheap OBD-II reader". The CEL comes on about 5 seconds after the car starts no other code I can see. DO I need a better Reader to clear this?

Replaced the PNP switch everything working normal, Reverse light start in Neutral, winter mode, sport . Car runs great that I can see, Transmission Fluid nice and clean.

This has has got me stumped. Thanks!
