Passenger Side Door Issue
Hi all,
A few months ago, the passenger side door stopped opening from the inside. My mechanic looked at it and said that the mechanism inside the door is broken. When the door is slammed shut, you actually hear a rattling sound.
The part alone is $250 with labor about $100 --- I think that's crazy!
What is the difficulty factor if I can find the part at a junk yard and fix the mechanism myself?
Thanks!

Easy job, get a manual to walk you through getting the door panel off. Then look at what is going on and change out the broken parts. You will need some basic tools, metric sockets, and a set of torx sockets.
If you find the part in the junk yard it might be as worn as yours. I have come up with a fix for the issue they have. But I have not been able to do one and take pics for a walk through. There is a rod that goes from the inner handle rod to the latch. There is plastic bushings in there that fall apart. Then the rod falls out then you cannot open it from the inside. Then eventually the inner arm will fall down causing the door to not open at all.
You cannot buy the bushings for the 850 latch assembly.
But what I have found is that the bushings from the older 740's which you can buy seperate are the same as the bushings for the 850. So I replace the bushings and reinstall the arm and all is good.
I have done 3 out of the 4 doors in my yellow car. I have also done it on a bunch of customers cars as well.
