1996 850 GLT

This is on the passenger side, near the front. I can see circuitry inside. Looks like the high pressure line, is this for head pressure? There is a spare plug with tape on the end, I assume this is what it is supposed to be plugged into?

Also, the link for the 850 service manual is broken, any of you happen to have it and want to share?

Probably, sorry I couldn´t tell from the picture.

 

That is the High pressure switch for the A/C in the picture with the plastic connector broke off.

i hope it is the also reason my system is evacuated. my luck, i've got a bum evaporator as well. i think i'm going to charge the system with nitrogen and see what it does. i hope it all comes rushing out through that sensor... but i know it won't.

 

Usually if the sensor breaks it won't let the freon out.

Why not charge the system with dye and let it empty again then search for the dye with a black light?

 

That's funny that you say that Tech. After all the work I did on my A/C I am pretty confident with it now. So, I was helping my friend with his Mazda's A/C this weekend and we were charging up the system. The pressure was rising but the compressor wasn't kicking on. I jumped the low pressure switch and it started up. So I figured the low pressure switch was out. So I started to unscrew it thinking the freon wouldn't leak out (it didn't on my Volvo). Anyway, what do you know, the Mazda's system is built differently and the switch is part of the receiver/dryer (seen here: http://cpwstore.carpartswholesale.co...&catq=true) and instead of having a valve like mine, it does actually release the freon! The pressure blew out the washer that was in there too, so I couldn't screw it back on. Before long, all the freon was gone! Ooops. Since he had just bought the r/d, he's going to try and return it sicne the low pressure switch appears to be busted.

 

you're right, and i will. but since it's totally empty i want to make sure there isn't a large leak, completely wasting my 134a.

i can shoot it with some nitrogen for free.

p.s. i'm smelling coolant when running the blower, so it looks like i'm eventually gonna be doing a heater core/evaporator/odometer gears. anything else i should get while i've got it all torn down? cabin air filter if it has one, i guess.

 

You pretty much got it covered with the Evap,Heater core and cabin filter.
