Rear bumper not sitting right - please advise (picture included)
Hello everybody,
This is something that bugs me from the first day I got my 1998 Volvo (bought it about month ago). There is a large gap about 3/4th of inch between a rear bumper and the metal; it is smaller on the wheel side and gets bigger at the trunk hood side. I haven't seen this on other S70s in the town and looks pretty ugly to me. I went to local Volvo dealer sent me to an independent body shop. The estimator at body shop could not find any damage to the body/bumper, anything bent etc. He was sort of at loss. So I decided to post this question here, where I think I should have strated.
Here this the picture of the bumper. Please advise if you know ehat can be wrong and if you know easy fix. Thanks

RE: Rear bumper not sitting right - please advise (picture included)
Here is the 2 things I can suggest.
1. Get under the car and look on the side where the bumper meets the body. One the body there is a plastic peice that guides the bumper cover on the car. Make sure the bumper cover is slid in properly.
2.Look at the aluminum support and make sure nothing looks bent. Looks like it was possibly tapped in the rear end.

Hi
I'm having the same problem. I looked underneath for clips that had come loose, but I think everything looks good. I'm going to upload some pictures. Can anyone help me? It's a 1998 V70 XC, by the way.
Thanks!

RE: Rear bumper not sitting right - please advise (picture included)
Not so simple.
Those are 3 large plastic rivits in each wheel well and theymust be drilled out before you can fully remove the bumper.
Unfortunately being in the rear you cannot turn the wheels so the wheels must be removed before you can get a straight shot at these rivits.
The same with install, wheels must be off, car on jackstands or a lift andnew rivits have to be put back on

Thanks JRL. I see the rivets you're talking about, but they were already loose anyway. I think it's just a TORX screw in the wheel well that's holding the bumper on each side. I'll probably still have to get the rear wheels off to access the TORX screws.
So just to make sure I understand correctly, there are two screws (one on each side) that I access from the INSIDE of the car, and then two 13MM screws that I access from underneath the back of the car, plus the rivets and TORX screws in the rear wheel wells. Is that all? Can you be more specific about the screws INSIDE the car? Mine is an XC wagon, so I'm not sure exactly where to look.
Thanks so much!

ORIGINAL: JRL
Nope.
Just the rivits and the 2 from the rear.
No screws from the "inside",
who in the heck said that?

No disrespect, but he has no idea how to removethis bumper andYOU tell him to look "inside".
Now it this were me, I then would look inside (whatever that was supposed to mean).
Get the point?
If you were not really sure, say that and let someone else who has done this recentlytell him how to
