Default Please tell me this is not my intake

While running under the hood of my 95 850 wagon I noticed a spout coming out of my air filter box that is connected to nothing. Following the direction it seems to lead I see a big metal pipe sticking out of the back of my engine that also has nothing attached to it!

Whatever it is probably shouldn't be open, but this would be really catastrophic if it was my intake, correct?

Hopefully someone can identify it as something else, and let me know what I should do about it!

Don't worry, it's not your intake. There should be a pipe there that directs heat from the exhaust manifold to the airbox. You'll be fine without it.

If everything works, it allows the air cleaner to get some warmer air from that direction during the winter. It shuts off in the summer. There is a little valve in the bottom of the air cleaner that controls that.

$13 on eeuroparts.com, $45 for original Volvo. search on PN# 946841 aka "heat tube" to see if that matches your pics.

Thats terrific news!

Thanks so much for the speedy response guys!

Looks very much like a semi-rigid Aluminum Duct.
I'll either leave it alone, or maybe snag one from Home Depot. Or if it doesn't look right eeuroparts.com looks pretty good!
