Default Poppinf noise when closing drivers door

The hold open latch is popping very loud when opening or closing the drivers door.Looks like it is moving where it attaches to the body side.Is there anyway to tighten this.It only the one door since its been used more than the rest I guess.

It could be the latch or the body might be cracked. Usually the latch assembly breaks or gets really stiff and cracks the body. You need to inspect the door and body for cracks. If there is no cracks then the stop/latch/door check strap needs to be replaced.

Does anyone have experience welding the body side? I know the body side mount is floating in the a pillar on my car.

My sons 850 was making the same popping noise. It wasn't the latch being broken, it was the weld coming loose. The guy that fixed mine for me actually drilled a hole and bolted it together. Much stronger than welding.

Do you have a picture? I didn't see too much room to do anything but reweld.

Have you just checked to see if the bolts have come lose? Mine did that on the drivers door and it was just the 10mm bolts needed to be tightened. Snugged them up and the pop was gone.

The mount physically moves in the door jamb on my car. I presume the previous owner should have fixed the door check and never did, thus stressing the mount enough to break.

There is a way to fix this without welding and I have done it, but can not remember just what I did. There was an excellent writeup I followed, but the website is no longer available and I can not find another copy of the writeup anywhere.

This thread talked about it, but the link in the thread no longer works.

I wish I could be more help.

I found this:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...hp?f=1&t=16857

Which seems like the fix mentioned in the Geocities link. I think I'm going to just MIG weld it back on after removing the door. Looks like all these bolt fixes are ok in the short term but nothing like rewelding.

Wow! I heard the popping but did not realize it was as bad as it is. I looked in the hinge area of my car a few minutes ago and see 2 cracks that are about 3 inches long. It looks like the door has had 2 bolts installed but neither cracks have stop drill holes.

I guess I am going to have to remove the door, then take the door to a weld shop to fix the cracks. If mine were any worse I would consider replacing the door.

Any instructions on removing the door?

Looks kinda easy to remove the door. I removed the bolt that holds the door stop arm in place. It was a T-40. I will have to be careful not to let the door swing to far open or bang into other things until I get it fix later this month.
