driver's door popping when opening/closing
Hi all,
Trying to figure this one out. For a while now my driver's door has been clicking when opening or closing the door. I figured it was the door strap, since that seems to be a common failure. So I ordered a replacement from IPD and went to R&R it this weekend. First, the new one from IPD doesn't fit. The studs that mount to the door are too narrow and won't go through the holes. A little bit of time with a rat-tail file should fix that though, but since it wouldn't fit I was checking it over and it looks like the original one isn't broken.
So, on to the meat of my question. After looking some more, it seems that what is broken is the mounting tab on the A-pillar has cracked, so when I open or close the door it flexes and then pops back into place. My question is, is there a way to replace that? It looks like if I took the door off I could get in there with a welder and tack weld it in place, but that doesn't seem like a good solution as I'm sure the tack would just break again eventually. If I remove the fender is there access into the a-pillar that I could get that broken tab out and weld in a new one?
thanks.
