I guess that's what you call the light under the dash above the kick panel. The one on the driver side stays on when the door is shut and I have to slam the door 2-4 times to get it to turn off. If it stays on when I put in the key, the chime will ring. The other interior lights will go off but not the footlight.

 

Google "Volvo door chime" and you'll likely find a solution. It sounds like the door latch is going bad or the chime relay.
