Default Pulling my hair out over OBDII scan for Climate Control error?

I have a 1997 850AWD.......over the last couple of days the two amber lights (A/C switch and Rec switch lights) blink together about 15/16 times on start up and then go out.

Reading up on it I found there could be an issue with the climate control unit.

I borrow a friend's Auter Maxiscan MS409 OBDII reader and performed a scan..........NO CODES?

Climate control appears to work fine, although defrost fan is not great, I think when I removed the dash pad to replace the odometer gear I might not have lined up the defrost tube fully..?

So am I using the wrong scanner or not performing the scan correctly or...???

Any guidance would be appreciated. Jeremy

I am pretty sure that you can't pull ECC codes through OBDII

Thanks for that, mine is a 1997 so a lot of things are different, outside air temp sensor, self test modules etc on the 1995 are not the same in 1997......but I understand I probably need to find somebody with an ECC reader..... :-(

yea look around on Matthews volvo site too. I could have sworn someone said that you can read the codes directly from the unit but I can't find the post. plus, someone may have that tool

Does your car have the auto climate control? If it does, does the ac work? Mine did the samething, and my ac doesn't work. Once I turned it off auto and on to rec it hasn't happened again. My understanding is that since my ac system doesn't work properly it triggered the flashing lights. I am going to have Dancia Motorscheck the ac system for leaks, and if it looks good I am going to recharge it, run it on auto and see if it happens again.

If you do find a code reader please post it. I am trying to see if I can find one that will work on my smart phone.

Mine does have the ECC and the A/C works fine, system was completely done in 2011.

Over the weekend I checked a few things with the ECC system, fuses, relays, resistor, fan etc etc........I blew out the cabin sensors with compressed air and even checked the REC "flap" control behind the glove box. Everything checked out fine and once I put everything back together the amber REC and A/C lights do not blink........but I still have poor air flow at the dash defrost outlets for the windshield....

Dancia in Duncan?

Yup, Dancia in Duncan. They sorted out an oil leak for me just after I bought my volvo, and Rich has been patient with my questions. I used to sell batteries to most of the shops on the island, so I have a few places I go myself due to the guys being honest, and good not necessarily cheap. Dancia knows the volvos, so if you hit a dead end I would recommend them without hesitation.

I know Rich, I live in Cowichan Station and have dealt with him, nice guy. I agree with you about dealing with locals that you know, it makes life easier...

Hit me up with a PM and I can forward my details and you can stop by for a beer or whatever.....

PS. Stay away from Chapmans unless you have a 45 gallon barrel of Vasoline.....
