Default Rapid Fuel Evaporation

Hey,

I'm getting some massive fuel evaporation problems. I lost about 1-2 gallons over night. I had 6 gallons last night, and today, I just turned on my car and I got about 3-4 gallons...

I checked my fuel pump and the assembly on top is wet but there isn't much accumulation.
That being said, the place where the wires come out is jelly.

My car also smells like gasoline sometimes when it's hot or even sometimes while i'm driving.

I mentioneda couple months ago that when I fill up gas to the max, I had some gas hit the ground and it was almost as if it were overflowing...It there any way to check this for a leak up here?

Recently, I put in some injector cleaner because I read that I could have a wacky fuel reading unit. After this, when I fill up, I can no longer "auto fill". Once I go all the way, the pump will click and it'll stop. I have to manually do it...

Is it possible to figure out myself or do some type of preliminary work, or should I just take it to the shop?

If it were my car I'd make sure my fire extinguisher is working andI wouldn'ttransport anyone in the back seat untilI had the problem fixed.

The gas runs off the top of the tank very easily.

is your hose in good condition.

Are there hoses outside of the ones that go to the fuel pump?

Because I did feel the top of the tank, and there was wet debris that smelled of gasoline..
If I remember correctly, there are 3 hoses...

Would I need to drop the tank to check?

One you can see through the 2 access hole and from under the car.

The others you will have to drop the tank to see.

Pics.

Someone on Volvo Speed had a problem similar to mine, and they determined it was the red hose in this pic.

But here are my pics.

Looks like the same thing on yours.

The big one to the right with the really rusty clamp is the hose that usually goes bad.

The recall only covers the Heat sheild mountings on the fuel tank.
If they aren't cracked they install rubber mounts and reinstall the heatsheild and done.

Would they advise the customer if they seethat repair is needed or they don't care and just do the recall?

Rephrase the question?

If you have the recall done at a dealer, they probably would notice the other evaporation problem. Or, you can tell them to check before they do the recall to make sure to check for other hazards around the fuel tank.

Hey Jimmy,

I finally got DSL going at my new apartment. Trying to catch up here. I believe you'll be ok since you've got an advice from Tech. Note, that gasoline is extremely volatile and even if there was a leak, liquid gasoline can transform into gaseous form very rapidly and there may not be a puddle. Vapourised gasoline is easily ignited so be careful.

I totally agree on this. I worked for a major gasoline pump manufacturer for 8 years and I've heard many stories (which I can't repeat due to NDA).

Be safe and make sure your fire extinguisher pressure is ok.

Regards
Axel

Yeah. It's the Vent hose that seems to be bad.

Called the dealer today and it's 15.76. I'll pick it up tomorrow and have my mechanic install it since I'm not going to drop my own tank...
