Rear seat removal

RE: Rear seat removal
Are you trying to remove the seat bottoms or the seat backs? The seat bottoms should fold foward accessing the way to remove.I think once they are folded foward. They just unlock from tabs.It comes from the back of the seat foward.
The seat back I think is bolted in once you fold the bottoms then you should be able to see.

RE: Rear seat removal
Yeah sorry I should have been more clear. I got the bottoms out easy. I just can't figure the backs out. I have the seats I am putting in so I looked at them to see if I could figure out how they are bolted in. There is a clip of something that you have to remove and I cannot get it to budge. I see no bolt or anything.
Thanks!

Now THAT makes sense! Thank you: what a relief! I just removed the rear seat backs from a '98 V70 wagon today, that I'm putting in my '94 850: what a PITA! The outboard hinges were indecipherable! There's a spring-loaded clip that didn't seem to do anything, regardless of which way it was pushed. I ended up chiseling at the bracket that's welded to the car, and the spring-loaded clip eventually fell out of it, whereupon the outboard hinge could be lifted out of the bracket, but as I said, I didn't know how it was SUPPOSED TO be disassembled.
Now, I do! Looking forward to doing this tomorrow.

To remove the backrest you need to follow these steps:
1. remove the "kidneys" left and right exposing the mounting hinges
2. the hinges are secured with a small metal bracket. With a flat screw driver press on the "nose" of this lower side of the bracket and with a second pull it up.
3. with both brackets removed place a crowbar between the backrests and push them apart. A second person pulls the backrest up (the bigger side).
4. once the backrest is out the smaller one comes fairly easy, the crowbar can be used the same way.
Fitting back
1. notice the 2 plastic bushings which slide on the shaft of the backrest (one for the bigger part, the second comes on the smaller part. Put them in the correct position otherwise the backrest will have some play and make annoying noise when driving.
2. First insert the bigger part .
3. With a chissel and mallet hit the part which is under tension so that it slides in place. You could also use a big pipe wrench and turn the part into position.
4. Insert the smaller backrest into the shaft and similar to the bigger part into the corresponding place for the hinge.
5. Put the securing clips back
6. reattach the seatbelts locks .
