Default Replacing antenna mast on a 1994 4 door sedan

I got the new mast. I pulled out the old one, but only 25 inches of the white plastic chord came out. I think there is still some left in the motor.

Q: do I have to remove ALL of the chord or not?

Q: Do the teeth go in facing to the back of the car? I think that's what I saw when the old one came out.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you need to get the rest of the line out. Sorry.

Teeth go towards the winding/motor.

Too bad since replacing a mast is as easy as pulling the top nut off. Running the motor to get the old out, feed the new in and turn it off so it pulls the new ant in.

Yeah, I got it out just fine, except for the small remaining chord. I guess I'll have to pull it out of he car tomorrow and pull out the last piece of the chord.

When you say, teeth go towards the motor, what does that mean? Is the motor on one side of the unit? When it came out, it looked like the teeth were facing towards the back of the car...

Is it hard to take it out of the car and open it up?

Thanks

If the motor is to the rear of the mass entry, face the teeth to the rear.

Other than that, I never took the balance of the old mass plastic out of any of the motors that I have replaced the mass in. How much of it do you think is still in there? I would try to install the new one and not worry about the missing piece that is in there.

Looking at the one that came out, there is about 25 inches that came out. Measuring the new one, it looks like about 15 inches is still in the motor, if both masts/chord are the same length.

What's the worst that can happen?

Thanks, I like you idea much better. Pulling out the whole thing and opening it up seems like a hassle. When you've replaced masts, how much came out with the broken ones? 25 inches seems pretty long....

Please advise.

Thanks!

From my experince, if you don't all the old chord out, the new mast will not retract all the way.

You'll need to pull the motor assembly and pull the side cover off to get the broken piece out. Or you could just replace the whole thing...

Anyone know the size of the nut that holds the assembly in? Is it 8mm?

Thanks
