Hi from Iceland!

I bought a 1993 Volvo 850 a while back on behalf of a friend; he got a good deal on it because it was dead but he managed to fix the engine, so yeay to that. But unfortunately there's also been a number of setbacks, the most recent of which being that the driver's side seatbelt got stuck, and before I even knew what was going on he'd gone and solved the problem but simply cutting it off. This of course necessitated getting a replacement seatbelt. Note that spare parts are expensive and hard to come by here, it takes a long time. But I finally got one listed for a 1993 volvo 850.

Now here comes the problem.

He says it doesn't fit. He says the old one didn't have a pretensioner and that the pretensioner is in the way. He's itching to cut the pretensioner off to see if that'll make it fit (I''ve gotten him to wait... for now)

What's going on? What should I do?

(note: he has experience working with cars, I don't)

Update: He says that his car doesn't have an airbag, either.

 

Hey all! Good news. He came over and still wanted to cut off the pretensioner. He took off the passenger side version to show me how it wouldn't fit. I realized that the way he wanted to hold the drivers' side one, it would have had the text upside down - I flipped it over, and voila, it fits.

We still need to find bolts, though.
