Default Resetting Airbag light after evap coil change

Hello
Imported 850 GL (96) in a Pacific Islands country with no Volvo workshop within 2000km. I replaced the aircon evap coil but neglected to do the thing with the battery reconnection. Now the airbag light remains on. How can it be reset without any Volvo workshop available?
Is it important? Here people drive at 40km and I am happy to live without airbag protection as I wear a belt and the car is a Volvo after all. But I want to know what the status is, if the light is on does it mean that the airbag system has been disabled? Does it increase the chance of a false deployment?

Aslo the TRAC/ABS light remains on. I checked the wiring to the sensors, what are the most common problems with that? AGain, it doesn't matter too much in this place as the brakes all work fine without it and speeds are pedestrian.

You're best bet is going to be taking apart the dash and cluster and taking out the bulb for the airbag. Either that or find a friend with an OBDII scanner that resets. I actually saw a write up that said the scanner wouldn't couldn't reset the airbag light. There's write-ups galore on removing your dash in the useful thread sticky. I would say just take that bulb out. The ABS one as well.

If the light is on the Air Bags disabled. You need a scanner that reads SRS codes to clear it.

For the ABS same if the light is on the ABS is disabled. Also same you need a scanner that reads ABS codes.
But the module usually goes bad. But can be rebuilt/resoldered.

I did the same thing when I replaced the EVAP on my son's '96. I didn't get the steering wheel airbag connector seated all the way. I heard a rumor that there is a cracked version of VOL-FCR on piratebay and bittorrent. It was also rumored that that program along with a KKL serial Vag Com cable would reset it. The serial version of the cable cost under $20.00 US on eBay but the true serial cable is hard to find and it is even harder to find a laptop with a com port these days. I guess there is a reason that people keep those old IBM Thinkpads with the dead batteries.

I dont know where you live but here we have Autozone who will scan your codes and reset your light for free. Worth looking around to find an auto parts store that provides this service.

I am almost positive they don't read air bag or abs codes. I also believe they can't reset them anymore.

The first one should work, the version that is floating around is the serial version.

'96 850 (obd version)
I've had the service light on for a while now,
and when I changed the steering wheel to a non-airbag version, this tripped the srs light.

Dash was starting to look like a christmas tree..

When I was removing the old wheel, the clock spring juuuust about fell apart.
So I had to remove that as well (plus the hub adaptor wouldn't fit with it there).

I might have 'borrowed' some software,
and bought a cable ( http://www.obdtoolstore.com/shop/pro...0390d362f7d493 )
And also bought a cheap second hand laptop with a serial port.

I now no longer have the srs or service lights wasting electricity.

Deeper info for anyone that needs it...

SRS system, the plug at that goes into the actual air bag has a 0.47uF capacitor in it, this is in series with the wiring.
So the airbag module is expecting to see, a 0.47uF capacitor in series with a ~2.2ohm resistor.
If not it will trip the warning light.
Very fussy system.
