rims
New to forum.
I am looking at buying new rims for our '96 850 wagon (non turbo) but need help. Currently we have the standard rims with hubcaps. I have now found some alloy rims but the guy says I need to know the bolt measurement. Any clue as to what this means? He said a measurement - 114.3 - no clue what that means.!
Can someone help me out?
Thanks.
John

RE: rims
Thanks for that.
I took off my hubcaps and had a look at the rim and the lug nuts and saw a bunch of different numbers, etc. The one thing I really noticed that on the lug nuts was the number 109. Does that mean anything?
Also, there appears this needle-like thing come out of the rim. On the rim itself is another small hole, about the size of a pushpin head, with this 3/4 inch long cone-shaped needle coming out of it. What's that?
Thanks,
John

RE: rims
Not sure what "109" on Lug Bolts mean. Since our lug bolts are chrome plated, I purchase new ones from the dealership.
The cone-shaped needle pin, is used for aligning the wheel to hub during mounting of wheel.
Remove one of your factory wheels. On the back side, you will find all kinds of numbers cast into your wheels e.g. 6.5JX15 5x108x43
6.5x15 -- 6 1/2 inches wide and 15 inches in diameter
5x108 -- 5 bolts spaced 108 mm apart
43 -- 43 mm offset
Most aftermarket 5x108 wheels use 35 mm offfset, which is about right for Ford Taurus, but is too close to the outer fender for Volvo. Volvo front wheel bearings and hubs were designed to have the weight of the car distributed across 43 mm wheels -- regardless of 6.5, 7, or 7.5 inch width of wheel.
Compare a regular Volvo 6.5x15 wheel against a 7x17 wheel (e.g. Volan). Cast inside of both wheels is 5x108x43.
