Default Rocker cover leak

I am looking at getting a 94 850T with about 190000kms (on it 118750mls), the whole car is pretty much immaculate and mechanically sound, except for one little leak coming from around one of the bolts on the top of the rocker cover. It is the one under the pipe that goes over the top right of the engine (turbo pipe?)

Would that just be a matter of tightening of the bolt or would is there something more serious? from what I can see the oil has only come from that bolt, not from around the whole rocker cover, is there a seal around that bolt that would need replacing?

All in all I think I will get it though, come Tuesday I hope, and all for only $2250 NZ (the guy needs the money to pay for his new commodore), thats around $1500US, damn cheap I think.

Nope it's not going to be that easy. Those bolts hold on the cam cover and there is not a gasket or seal under the cam cover. You have to use a tube of liguid sealant sold by Volvo to seal the cam cover to the head. It's put on with a paint roller, and it's a pain to get it just right. If it's not leaking too bad you might just live with it, but it's not a real big job to get the cam cover off, it's just a pain to put it back on with that tube of sealant. There are probably about 30 bolts holding it on and they are not very big. You have to be very careful to not over tighten, but yet have them tight enough to keep it from leaking.

but from what I can tell it is actually coming out of the bolt not from the seal around the cam cover, so do I still need to do all that? I will of course tighten the bolt incase that is the simple problem, but it is clean elsewhere, it is litterally that one little bolt hidden under the pipe across the top of the engine.

Wait for TECH to come on and see what he says, but I would not see a problem with taking the bolt out and putting some sealant on the threads and putting the bolt back in. I really couldn't hurt anything and if you're lucky it will stop the leak.

You can try giving it a little turn. if not I would remove only the one bolt and add a little sealer and retorque.

Yeah thanks, was going to try that but was dark when I picked the car up last night, and I have a board meeting that will likely run late tonight as well.

Ah well hopefully tomorrow night, will check the bolt, give the engine a clean as the guys presentation was not the best, a little dusty under there and its calling out for a cut and polish (the first emotional attachment to a car is when you give it that first polish).
