Default Rod bearings???

Okay..so I get my extensive shipment of engine parts today from a reputable parts supplier and I'm looking at the rod bearing and saying why isn't there a notch in them to hold the bearing and keep them from spinning? I haven't had the engine a part yet so I don't know what is in there but it's not what I expected. Advise please.

Whenever I looked at bearing, from fcp, volvopartsonline, swedishautoparts, I never noticed any notches in the bearings. I would check some build threads where you could maybe get a glimpse of the internals and see what the stock bearings look like.

Thanks...

It's been a few years since I've had an engine apart and I'm looking at Chilton and Haynes and I see the photo's and maybe I'm getting the mains mixed up with the rods. I seem to remember the diesel I rebuilt having notches in the rod bearings.

You working on that engine this weekend?

That's my plan. I'm hoping to take the new hood and put it on the wagon and taking the hoist back to the guy I borrowed it from so I'll have more space. And then I have a work bench at my parents house that I built when I was younger, so I think I'm going to take it apart and bring it down so I'll have a place to work on the smaller parts of it. Gonna try to have the wagon bare by the end of the weekend.
