Default Shifter

Just got a neutral sensor replaced in my 850 Turbo. Repair mechanic said all else looked fine. Next morning when I put it in gear, it did not engage into gear. The engine reved up until I moved the shifter slightly. Then it engaged and was fine. It has done this several times. I took it back today and the mechanic is wanting to tell me it is a pre-existing condition. Wrong. It is not as the vehicle would shift and get into gear flawlessly. The problem previously was that the engine would not start and after by passing the starter cylenoid and starting it, the 850 would not shift out of 1st gear as you drove down the road.

The shifter also does not have the same "feel" when you move through the different gears. It is not as free moving.

Ideas?

Not sure about the free movement of the shifter, but it sounds like the PNP switch wasn't aligned.

Thanks,

That will give me a few points to speak with the technician about.

Mechanic put a 2nd PNP switch in the Volvo and it works like it is supposed to. I guess he got a bad switch. Car shifts into gear just fine and runs great.

Thanks for comments!

Agreed,

I had my doubts at first as they originally gave me the car back with the flawed switch. I had to tell them I would not accept this and that they needed to fix the car properly.
