Default Side repeater wiring

I pulled some side repeaters off a car at a junk yard, opened up my fender, and no wiring. I figured I needed some wiring with plugs, so I went back to the junk yard, pulled the fender off the car, and found the wiring disappears into the harness and goes up to the fuse box. It's not something I can just unplug and hook into my car.

Given that everything inside the car is pre-wired, and pretty much plug and play, I found it surprising that the side repeaters aren't. Is there any rhyme or reason as to which cars are wired and which aren't?

I assume that to install these I just need to tap into either the running lights or the signal lights. Will this cause a problem with my 'bulb out' indicator on the dash?

Thanks

850s and 1998 S/V70s never came with the side marker lights. Volvo added the side marker/turn signals to the S/V/C70 in 1999.
