Smile So im getting A 97' 850 glt

To start off *First Post* Nice to meet you Guys.

So like the title says im getting a 850 glt....well in a year, from me mum. Because im handing down my 2001 xli Sebring to my little bro when he turns 16 next May. Iv seen many threads about making 850's "quick" but id like some very exact questions answered. To start off, im planning to enter this car in Scca racing when its in NE(where i reside) this is because, my Dad actually won trophies for best driver in NE and 1st place in many events...etc(with a 84' gti i believe) point being i grew up with my dad and cars. Being a guy with friends that have M3s, GTos, WRX STis,2010 pro charged camaros, and 2011 stangs. Im planning on saving $2000-$3000 to though into it right away im looking for the most power to cost ratio with that $. Then in the following year work on handling etc with spare cash i bring in. So im looking at the Ipd ecu, and thats about it because with it have a low pressure turbo in it im not sure what else would be a nice gain in power. i also tested the volvo last week with 0-60 runs and hit 7.8-7.9 every time. so it seems the engine and turbo are still working fine after all these years in Nebraskas harsh seasonal weather. And also if you know of a better ecu please tell.

thanks in advance-
-Cole

Replace all the rubber intercooler piping because it is old, oily, and spongy. Replace the downpipe and exhaust with a 3 inch downpipe and exhaust. Have you thought about replacing the engine with and 'R' engine (high pressure turbo)? That gives you a higher baseline to start with.

Flush the transmission fluid.

i havent thought about the engine mainly because i havent ever done one and only know one friend that built up a v8 350 and put it in his 70' chevy truck. But would swapping the turbo be any better idea and the manually increase the boost? And would you say go with the ecu. iv only heard good things about Ipd it puts the turbo at 12psi and iv heard not a single problem with their setup. i was thinking ECU, 3' turbo back exhaust, short ram air intake, and a 3' downpipe. i know that will get me into low 6s for 0-60...if only mother went for a "R" lol

1+ with VTBricked. Instead of cold intake, I would maybe get larger sway bars, better wheels. It will help with handleing. The LPT with the ipd ecu might be enough bang, but you will need to handle well, i'm guessing.

If you plan to mod it for racing, sell the LPT car and buy a HPT car. Start off from that. Check out the Volvospeed Forum too.

Or is it possible to put a HPT in its place and get something like a RIP kit to help it work? i really dont want to sell it because i grew up getting driven places in that car and have some what of an attachment to it and i also know how its been driven and whats had to be fixed. Btw does anybody know the max psi you would want to run this cars LPT? i know its safe at 12psi but not sure after that point.
