speaker wiring question
my volvo came with a 6 speaker system installed. the 2 sets of rear speakers (rear doors and rear deck) were both 8ohm speakers. since the stock deck no doubtedly put out xxx rms @ 4 ohms, im assuming if i put a pair of 4ohm speakers in there, it should bump down to 2ohms, yes?
second question:
can the stock wiring handle 70watts RMS a side? i figure ill push 35 per speaker, 2 speakers per line, 2 lines total.
many thanks for your input!~

White: you are correct in the part about ohms. the reason they did that is probably that each channel was running 2 speakers. Wiring should have NO problem handling 70 watts a side - thats really not a lot of power for a wire to handle.
What kind of deck are you planning on getting?

i already have a kenwood excelon 900 series reciever. i also have a pioneer amp that i was using for a single 10" sub, but id rather use it for the 2 rear speakers and get a better amp for my sub.
the amp will put out around 100w rms @ 2ohms per channel in stereo.

will do. my setup as follows for now:
front - stock speakers (laugh now, i know its bad)
rear doors - empty currently
rear deck - mb quart 6x9's with a custom spacer i made and glued to the stock speaker holders.
deck - kenwood eXcelon KDC-x892 (thought i had a 900 series :P)
will take pix tomorrow, gonna redo the amp wiring and upgrade it to 4gauge.

4 gauge wire for a 100x2 amp is complete overkill. save your money and use 8 gauge. Now, if you intend to do more amps back there later, run it and get a power distribution block that has a 4 gauge wire coming in and 2 or 3 8 gauge wires coming out.
thats exactly my plan. im using 8 gauge right now with no problems. however, im planning on running a second amp to power a single 10" sub.
im an SQL guy, dont want or need massive SPL.
the amp puts out 380W rms @ 4ohms, it only puts out 200 in stereo tho.
