RE: Special Turbo items...???
Oil cooled turbos have been known to coke the oil in the turbo if you shut them off after hard use. This over time will kill the turbo. For general driving, you are fine to shut down immediately, but letting the car idle for a minute or so will help cool the turbo if it's been driven hard.
You can install a 'turbo timer' that will keep the car running even after you shut off the ignition and remove the key until the car's turbo reaches the cool down temperature. From what I've read though, these cars tend not to need it. - AB

Concur with what B1mmer said.
Usually, unless you come screaming off the highway and shut the car down right away, you shouldn't have any troubles. In fact, if you dirve slowly through a neighbor hood a minute or so before shutting down after a freeway run, you should be fine.
What I do is if I have been driving on the freeway for awhile and pull in to a gas station or rest area, I will let the car idle for about 2 minutes before shutting it off. Another thing is that when I pull into my driveway, I put it in park and let it idle while I get my junk collected and other stuff put away in the car (CD's, sunglasses) That takes a minute and by then the turbo has cooled a bit and is ready for bed.

Yes if running hard you should let the turbo cool down for a minute or two. I very rarely do this and have never had one of my turbos go on any of my Volvo's. If I'm on the Interstate and pull into a rest area, and I don't have to pee too bad, I will let it cool down for about a minute. Most of the time I can't hold it any longer than that though. I don't think my wife ever does the cool down thing though, and she puts more miles on the cars than I do.
