Default Split CV Joint Boot Availability

I have a torn CV joint rubber boot. I have looked for one of the split boot repair kits, but there is nothing listed for the 850.

Does anyone know where to buy one for the 850, or does anyone know the dimensions of the OEM boot so I can see if is there one listed for another vehicle that will work?

And, yes, it would be better to replace the boot with the OEM one, but my mechanic wants $350 to do it and I don't have the time to do it myself.

Thanks,
JM

Sorry I don't know the dimensions.I refuse to use the split boots because most of the time they will come apart within a week of installing them.
They are the biggest peice of junk ever invented.

Amen on the 'split' boot retro kit!!!! The seams "re split" with the grease going out and the dirt coming in. What have you gained?

I have seen the a good one last for years, but I was not the one who installed it so it may have been a fluke.

So if the split boot is not an option, how hard is it to replace one?

Thanks,
JM

As long as things go smoothly should take you 2 to 3 hours to do.

Not to beat this thing to death, but i'm thinking that the best approach would be to buy a remanufactured axle unit for $120 or so and replace it, instead of taking off the old boot and repacking the CV joint.

Any experience with rebuilt axles, and which approach is easier?

Thanks,
JM

It is pretty much the same job you do either way.
Replacing the axle would be a little easier if thats the way you want to go.
