Squeaky Heater

Squeaky Heater
Hi, Guys-I had this problem with my heater. every time it rained. When the Fan/Heater would turned on it would squeak. (it sounded like it was coming from the vents below the windshield wipers) So naturally I would turn up the radio to fix the problem.
Yesterday I noticed a mild burning smell.Well today the fan does not work at all.
Is there a belt on the Heater fan? (it really sounded like a belt squeak)
Could theblowerbe seized causing the belt to slip?(if there is a belt)
How hard is it to get to the Heater Motor?

RE: Squeaky Heater
It is not belt driven. It is a bog standard electric motor, which has a tendency to dry out its bearing causing a squeak and, eventually, coming to a stop.
Remove the passenger side soundproofing panel (under the glove box). Remove the glove box (4 screws) then the glove box lid (4 screws).
Look straight ahead at the bulkhead (firewall) and you will see the back of the motor. Remove the electric connector then the cable duct from the motor. Remove the connectors from the brackets. Remove 4 screws and ease the motor out into the passenger compartment.

Systek,
When mine started squeaking, nearly 2 years ago, I pulled the motor out and put a very small squirt of white lithium grease into the bearing. This was meant as a stop gap until I could get a new one. It still does not squeak so it has had a stay of execution.
I give no warranty on this information.
correct. the motor went out. Mine is sqeaking now so it will have to be replaced too...

When I had the same problem, took out the blower, cleaned it, lubed with WD-40. The noise stopped for a day or two so I decided to put a new one in. After the new blower was in place, it never complained. However, the blower was $139 + shipping.
Take out the blower and try cleaning & lubricating the motor-end of the shaft. You may be able to eliminate the noise like Bill did. If not, you may have to find a new blower:

I used the Behr blower (Behr is a major supplier), but if you can get away with an aftermarket unit, you can save some $, or if you're handy you can replace the motorwith Bosch for$99 + shipping. Either way they were guaranteed to squeak.

RE: Squeaky Heater
I tried the squirt of grrease on the blower motor of my sons 850 this summer when it started squeaking. So far, so good (I probably jinxed it now and it will start squalling). Anyway, you can try the grease if you don't have the cash for a blower motor right now, but I would start saving for one just the same.
