Default SRS Dash Light Is On! Crash Sensor bad??

I have a '93, 850 and am getting Fault Codes 2-1-2 (Driver's air bag, open ckt) and 2-2-2 ( Psgr's air bag, open ckt). The wiring from the air bag connectors to the crash sensor does not show an open ckt. Could it be a bad crash sensor? I find it hard to believe that both air bags are bad. The car has been sitting for a while!!

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Volvo's self-diagnostic is noted for being inaccurate. You might be able to reset the codes & clear the dash warning, but here's a quote from Haynes:

"It is imperative that any other work involving the SRS components is entrusted to a Volvo dealer"

Haynes likes to say "entrust it to a Volvo dealer" way too often[8D]. But in this case, you may not have an option but make a donation for a dealer.

Go to Autozone and reset the code...See if it comes back before you make any repairs...

Auto Zones scanner won't work on OBDI

But I have seen the air bags go bad at the same time.
Will the codes clear?

I'm going to pick up a SRS test resistor from Volvo later today. Than I can check to see if the airbags are bad!!!
I was going to fabricate a test resistor, but, can get the real thing from Volvofor $30 which seems reasonable enough.
Will report back on my progress!!
Appreciate the inputs as this is my first 850!!

www.obd-2.com has a scanner for USD120 that according to the author can reset the SRS light, oil light, MIL, and read Volvo extended codes.

I bought one but my car has European software and it laughs at OBD2 protocol commands. :-(

The author told me that he will write some software so the scanner can talk to my onboard electronics. Let see how it goes.
