starting issue

Good afternoon all.
I have been having a random starting issue recently.
Turn the key, it will turn over, want to start, and then not.
If I keep the key held on, it would start turning over again and then start
and run normally.
Last Friday, I went to start it, it slowly started, but then kept idling
rough, step on gas and it would cut out. Kept doing this after 10-15 tries.
Did some sleuth work under the hood. I eventually released the pressure in
the fuel line, went to start it and this time nothing at all even after
pumping gas and waiting for pressure to build up. Checked fuel rail for
pressure, nothing. I then assumed it to be the fuel pump so I replaced it
and it started right up. But, now after a day, the starting issue is back
(has been staying running this time though).
Could it be a bad fuel filter causing intermittent issues? Bad Injector? Coil? Any thought are appreciated and there have been no CELs thrown....sorry for long post too.

Have you checked your fuel pump relay? Search this forum and you'll find info on how to jump it to bypass the relay in order to troubleshoot. There's a number of similar threads on this forum that will give you some ideas on what to check.
If you have no fuel pressure at all, and your pump is new, my guess would be either the relay or some wiring issue.
Changing the fuel filter will never hurt either.

First off, no apology necessary. When trying to diagnose something the more background info you have, the better.
In order of likely causes of these symptoms, here's what i would ck:
In order of likely causes of these symptoms, here's what i would ck:
- Fuel Pump Relay; would almost bet $$ this is your problem.
- Fuel Pressure Regulator; it's on the fuel rail, ck for fuel coming out of vacuum fitting; if you do, it's bad.
- It's possible a fuel injector(s) is/are hanging open relieving all the fuel pressure, but then you would see wet spark plugs, flooding, etc.
- Bad Coil? Check for spark and report back.
- Ck above and report back; again, my $$ is on the fuel pump relay; fairly common failure on these cars and describes your symptoms perfectly.
