I took tech's advice and put the Kumho's on. It ended up being $420, which kind of ticked me off when I was thinking the meant $380 out the door which should have included tax, but it didn't. It ride better than it has since I bought it that's for sure.

They found that I have a bad tie rod on the passenger side. They showed me the play from side to side on the wheel, and I know it has had some vibration even before it got real bad. They want $85 for a Moog tie rod, or $77 for either a Febe/Bilstein or Scantek which are supposed to both be OEM. Looks like I can buy one from FCP Grotem for $16.00, where it says right outer tie rod end. Is that what I need, and how much work is it to put in on? I was just going to pay them to do it until I looked up the part.

 

If it is the outer it is about as easy to do as brakes.
It can be done in about 30 minutes. BUT you will need an alignment after it is done.

I would fix that then see how it rides/handles when it is done and aligned.

 

The alignment is included in the price of the tires, but is was an extra $80 for the tie rod replacement. So you think I can do the tie rod myself? It also needs front discs, so it seems like doing the two at the same time would be the best move. They said my pads look good but the rotors are under minimum and I am noticing some braking problems. I've never done rotors w/o pads, but I might in this case. The pads have about 20K on them.

 

Yes you can do it your self.
All you have to so is undo it from the hub. But break the nut loose first. Then unscrew the outer tierod and install the new one.
Either count the number of turn it takes to come off or keep the nut close and install the new one to the nut and tighten the nut.

That would be a good idea to replace the rotors and tierod at the same time.
