Shouldnt the front end realignment have taken care of the steering wheel alignment?

They did the front wheel alignment but still overlooked the steering 12' clock position. Thats why I dont want to go back to them for aligning the wheelif its something do-able at home.

But it might not be perfectly straight. Also next alignment it could get way off.

When I yanked the dash on my son's car to change the evap I got the steering wheel center off quite a bit. I just found a flat/straight piece of road and marked the tracking straight center on the steering wheel. When I got it back to the driveway I lined up the mark on the steering wheel and then popped the steering wheel off and centered it back correctly. Pull the battery cable and know your radio code.

But also if they didn't lock the wheel from the start then the alignment might be off and the tire migth wear fast.

Hi Lee,
It seems that you have actually taken the wheel off the shaft. Can you please just type in quick steps about how to remove it like.....Removing the centre cover off the wheel and then Is there a standard nut in the middle which hold the wheel on splined shaft etc etc...
Removing the battery cable is optional or is a mendate?

Thanks in advance

Removing the battery cable is Absolutely Mandatory. The center cover on the steering wheel is an airbag and at a minimum you will set an SRS code if you don't pull the battery. Wait about 10 minutes after you pull the battery before you even start to work on it. The airbag needs to be removed by removing the right hand screw first and then the left or you can mess up the horn contacts.

After the airbag is removed it is simply a nut and the steering wheel goes on a splined shaft.

Remove, re-center, and torque it back to 25 lb./ft.

It would be easier just to take it back to the shop and have them re do the alignment correctly.
