Hey everyone, I'm now the proud owner of an '96 850 GLT and I really love it so far, but since I've started driving it I've noticed a couple strange noises that I'm curiouse about. The first one I noticed was a squeak squeak squeak noise when I started the car one very cold morning (I think it was like 10 degrees out). It happens with a very defenite rhythem which makes me wonder if its got something to do with the timing belt. The second noise I've been hearing is a popping noise which sounds exactly like a pebble hitting the window. At first I thought it was nothing but a pebble, but it's been happening alot, and at very different times, it's happened on straight smooth roads, while turning, while accelerating, on bumpy roads, it seems to happen all the time. So if anyone can offer me some ideas on what these noises might be and maybe some advice on how to fix them Id appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

 

The first one have the tensioner and idler pulleys inspected.
Might be one locking up espically when cold.

Second one might be a bad sway bar link or strut cap (upper spring seat)

 

Thanks tech. I gotta bring in the car to my local Volvo mechanic for an oil change soon, so when I do I'll have him inspect everything. I'll mention those things to him.
