Default Suspension Clunk

Ok, well my suspension is clunky.

I know that two common problems are endlinks and spring seats. Are these the two that probably need to be fixed? I have both a clunk and a rattling when I go over bumps, so maybe both are bad.

Also, is there anything that commonly goes bad in the rear that would make the rear clunk (mounts or anything of that sort?)? Or is this clunk most likely a bad strut or w/e?

I was looking at a S70 T-5R set of springs/shocks w/ about 100k miles. Do you guys think it's a good buy? I am somewhat worried because w/ the stock suspension so bad (at least for my Turbo), how long should I expect the used T-5R suspension to last me? I've added the pics, this looks like a decent set right? How much do you guys think it's worth?

Thanks for the help!
-Jimmy

Personally I don't think I would buy a set that already has 100k on them. If I'm going throug all the trouble, I would want new ones.

^Yah, I thought about that. But a new set is expensive as hell (especially since springs seats and endlinks sound like they might need replacement). I kind of want to save some cash and then get a set of wheels...

I wouldn't trust a set of 100K ones either.
For the rear noise I have seen the Sway bars break(If you have one) or the top shock mount break as well. They are almost like the spring seats in the front.

Do the strut mounts usually go bad? Or is it just the spring seat?

So this is going to sound dumb/ricey as poking hell but.........

Right now I have Turbo springs/struts that are sagging pretty badly. I have about a 1 1/2 finger gap on each wheel.

I am looking at a set of S70 T-5 springs/struts.

Is it worth it to replace my sagging suspension with the same stuff and prop my car up (what benefits would I get?) or would I be ok with my current setup? With my current setup, I am clunking pretty bad, but it sounds like I just need endlinks and spring seats to fix the clunking.

So what would you guys recommend? Replace the suspension? Replace the struts? Save money? I kind of like my "lowered" look. My only complaint is the clunking/rattle.

I would fix the spring seats and sway bar links and save money for decent new parts to install for the suspension.

Alright, I think that's what I might do. I asked because I gotta take the struts out anyways, it might be worth it just to replace them. But the struts seem to be good right now. They bounce right back up.

Some of the Heavy Duty adjustable endlinks will stiffen the front up too.

For me its no big deal.
With my small compressor I had both spring seats done in 30 minutes in my driveway.
Once you do it a few times it will be real easy.

Yeah. But you can do alignments pretty easy.

I looked at the instructions and it looks very simple to do. But w/ MN winters, I don't know how bad the rust will be...

Tech, so you said the sway bar in the rear is what commonly makes the rear clunk/rattles?

I know this is going to sound wierd....but does the sound that the springs make in your car sound like a squeaky mattress in cheap hotel? Because I have that same issue on the front right and it is only when I'm going about 40 mph or less and of course over bumps. The mechanic had checked my car out and said everything looked fine, it wassafe to drive...replaced the struts which I thought would fix the problem and it didn't.

I'm learning soooo much from this forum.....Thank you!!

First everyone says an alignment is manditory but we change them all the time at work without doing an alignment.
Mine needed one before doing them but I still need to get it done.
Have driven over 3k since it was done.

Either the rear sway bar or the upper shock mount.
You can tell easy by looking at the rear sway bar if it is broke.

I just took a look at the sway bar. That skinny little guy looks to be in one piece. Are there any links that I gotta check?

I had some people ride in the back the other day and apparently both rears were clunking. Safe to say both rear shock mounts are gone? any easy way to check?

tmixdorf, I read about a problem similar to yours earlier today. I'll see if I can dig it up again..

Tmix, you might have a bad spring bushing (same thing as spring seat?) too. Open your hood and spin the rubber thing (should be ontop of the struts) and see if it spins freely.

It might be sound of the spring rubbing against the strut.

No real easy way to check you wil have to get in to look at them and inspect them.

Alright, but if i'm clunking in the rear and the sway looks to be intact, that is the culprit correct?

So I guess I will go ahead and order a pair of Rear Shock Mounts. Do I need any special hardware (nuts/bolts) or would I be good just ordering these? And have you heard of a brand called MTC or should I just go w/ the OEM ones??

I got all my stuff ordered.

Rear shock mount install is the same as spring seats right? Or relatively same?
