So here the situation I have, the other day I was driving the car tacho hits 2500 rpms and is stuck as if that the max it can go, switched into sports mode and back it was some what fine. However the car starts making this weird noise GUNGUNGUNG and I don't know whats going on. Drive home a hour later I start the car and BOOM the car sounds louder than a v10, tried driving it but it tops out at 1400 rpms and doesn't go faster than 30 km. There a huge scent of gasoline inside and outside the car. I had problems starting the car twice before it started gungungunging. I hope someone has a idea or a went through this and hopefully it not a extreme problem. So what your take?

Maybe Mass Flow sensor is bad.
Could be alot of things Any codes on the engine computer?

 

Codes? I am not sure I am pretty new with car repairs.

 

Is the check engine light on? If so you need to have the codes read out of the computer.

You also didn't say what year the car is. If it is a 94 or 95 check link to learn how to pull codes.

o sorry mine is a 96 GLE from the link you sent me I would need a scanner. Not sure but can I get one at walmart? Or from a mechanic

 

You can get one from an autoparts store. Some parts stores will rent them to you.

 

Also, try visually inspecting the engine & exhaust pipes when both are cold. With gungungunging I would not restart the car until the problem is identified.

As to OBD-II scanner, my favourite is Actron:

Look around, as some other mfgs may have good products as well. If you do not do a lot of diagnosis, then the cost of a scanner may not be worth it as you can visit an auto parts store and they can pull codes for you.

it looks like a gap between the exhaust manifold and the rest of the car...could that be the only issue?

turns out to be the exhaust manifold...the connecting part blew off...
was wondering how does that happen?

 

Did the nuts come loose?

 

I am not sure...but the entire head that was connected to the exhaust was practically missing there was a gap altogether
