Default Tilt/Telescopic Steering Wheel

My '94 Turbo Wagon has a Tilt/Telescopic steering wheel, as I would expect all 850's do. The thing with mine is that it doesn't lock into place very securely. I can release it, set it to a position, but when I 'lock' it, it doesn't seem to lock with enough pressure. If I pull on the wheel with minimal effort I can pull it in and out. Is there a cable that can be adjusted on the tilt/telescopic lock that will give it a better hold? Thanks in advance. - AB

Pull the steering wheel covers off and inspect the handle for cranks. You might also be able to reposition it.

I assume that you're talking about removing the cover for the steering column and inspect the handle for 'cracks'. Can you confirm? Thanks - AB

Yes there is 2 t-25 screws and 2 T-15 screws to get the covers off.

By steering wheel cover do you mean that panel beneath the steering wheel by your knees?

No the 2 plastic covers around the column. Like covering the wiper switch and turn signal switch.

awesome, i'll check it out next weekend when i have time. I have the same problem. I was putting on a rubber steering wheel cover, and it was so tight that when i pulled down on the steering wheel i think i stripped the locking/tightening mechanism. I have a block of wood holding the steering wheel up now. .
