timing belt change
Hi!
I'm a brand new here. Here are lots of info, thanks a lot.
I try to change timing belt of my 93, 850 GLT.
Should I change pulleys(Idler pulley,Tensioner Pulley) together?
How about on Hydraulic Tensioner Cylinder ?

If you decide to reuse the cylinder, be very careful when compressing it before installation. I would buy a Haynes manual; its missing some info but is worth US $17 or so.

Thanks, tech & JPN!
This would be my first DIY..I guess it will take lots of time and repeat. But I'm eager to do!
There are two kinds of Haynes volvo manual. Which oneis proper to use?
Volvo 850, 1993-1997 (Haynes Manuals) (Paper back)
or
Volvo 850 Service and Repair Manual (Haynes Service and Repair Manuals) (Hardcover)
Both are worthy to buy?
I think you mean first one (around 17$)?
Have a good holiday!!

When I did our timing belt, I changed the belt, tensioner, all the pulleys, plus the same for the serpentine belt. IF you can afford it, the extra time and effort are worth the peace of mind.
+1 to Psaboic.
The paperback ver. should suffice. Also use Volvospeed’s instructions as a complement (sorry admin.): http://volvospeed.com/Repair/timingbelt.php
Make sure to buy the OEM parts. See if this thread would help some:

When I did mine, the two toughest parts were passing the belt past the crank pulley (I did the belt without removing the crank pulley) and removing the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley is held by one Torx bolt and the bolt was frozen. The head stripped of course, and after many attempts to remove it, I decided to take an alternate route of grabbing the flange around the bolt with a locking pliers (Vise-grip) and it turned like nothing. In the worst case scenario, however, you may have to drill a hole in the fender and drill out the damn bolt[8D].
I hope you have had a good holiday too.
