I just wrapped a small piece of paper towel around the bulb (in case it DOES break) and gently wiggled it until it came out

I just finished doing the bulbs in my ECC on the T5R. They just pull out, but can be kind of tough. Pull the bulb itself and it will eventually come out of the black plastic. Now that's not true of the bulbs in the radio though. Just in cas somebody is reading this and doing the ones in the radio. There is a separate thred for the radio bulbs.

What does the end of the bulb look like? Metal prongs, glass, etc...??

The bulb is soldered into the socket.

After 20 minutes of wigglin it finally came out. Now a new problem, the new bulb won't go back in, actually either will the old one. The bulb is flat across the bottom and the socket has a pointy ridge in it that keeps it from locking in to place. I wiggled it around to try and make contact to get the bulb to illumiate... nothing.

How does the new bulb go into the socket? I don't think solder would even do the trick.

You have to either solder it in or buy the proper bulb with the socket attached.

Oh so the bulbs in the console are different than the ones in the dash and the ones in the radio? I guess I have never done the ones in the console.

Since absolutely nothing in my console is lit up like the window swithces or the lighter or the S,W,E switch, I'm assuming that it's not burnt out bulbs in this case. I'm thinking I didn't get something plugged back in all the way when I had the console out to replace the master window switch. I didn't even realize they were not working until I started reading this thread and then when I drove the other car I noticed how lit up it was and the white car was dark.

Ha, I have been wondering the same thing lately. I was thinking to my self "volvo surely would have engineered lighting for this". Wow, the things you learn in a forum. I have owned the car now for about 4 yrs. lol. I guess I'll fix it.

I am also finally getting around to my ABS module. I am going to send it in to Victor Rocha.

I went through the same thing with my 99 Odyssey. The clock in the dash didn't have a back light. It was annoying at night to try and hit the overhead light to see what time it was, or flip out a cell phone after digging it out of a pocket. After perusing the Odyclub forum I found that the indeed had a back light. I had to tear the entire dash apart to replace the minuscule bulb. What a difference it made though. We owned it for about 4 yrs that way. We traded the van in 2 months I replaced it. Yes!.
