i ask this because i have a 1996 850 sedan and it is nice but im thinkin of gettin a wagon to be able to carry more stuff but cant affort an awd model (v70) and we get lots of snow and ice here and my car does not have tracs so i dont know how it does in the winter. But you say that tracs is almost as good as awd when starting off so maybe that will work and a good pair or studs

It might.
Hopefully someone from up North will add their 2 cents.

I live in Florida and never snow here.

But Tracs works great on wet roads.

I use the Winter mode in snow and it works fine. Is that the same as tracks?

no tracs removes power to a wheel if it starts to slip. it only works below 25 mph

I would say AWD is better because you have 4 points at which you can put power to the road. Traction control is good don't get me wrong, but there is still a significant difference between the two. I've driven my mom's V70XC in the snow and it's quite amazing how well it grips the road. Granted part of that is traction control, but my 850 doesn't perform that well in the snow.
