Default trannie issues

Today on the highway, I couldn't get 4th gear. It was in drive but acted as if it was in the 3 position. downshifted funny too. Did this for about 30-45 then I finally accelled up to like 80-90 and it shifted right at redline. I have driven a few places and cut on and off and it seems to be fine now. Any ideas what's goin on? I am planning on taking her down to Atlanta next week and don't want her to die on the way

Any codes at all?
When you had all the problems before did you happen to replace the TPS.

no, I didn't change the tps. I really think it has something to do with the shift comp. It seems to be in the 3 while in drive. If I shift b/t the two it stays the same doesn't change. It is working now, but i don't want it to go out on my way to Atl. I am going to drive it again to see, but which number and port do i check for the trannie codes. No shift light though.

A/1 is the transmission.
If the TPS is bad the trans won't shift properly. The TPS helps tell the trans when to shift.

Everything seems to be normal other than fourth shifting to high. I will check the codes. any chance of a linkage problem in the shifter?

A-1 143= Kick down switch faulty or short circuit to ground

Which I think might be the throttle position sensor.

Actually, i had a problem with this a while back. It is a module attached to the firewall and has the throttle cable that comes through it. It came disconnected from the firewall. I unplugged the electrical connection when I was having throttle issues. I am pretty sure that I plugged it back in, but I will check. If not, could I unplug it again and see if it works better without it?

Clear the code and see if it comes back.

Has this problem come back -- or did that fix it?

Just got back from a 3 hour trip and it has been a couple of days with no problem. I don't know if unplugging the kick down switch connection helped b/c the problem stopped before I did this. I think it was just a fluke in the system but we will see.
