Transmission Banging
I just took my 850 turbo to volvo fort washington to get the gear selector switch replaced and now volvo saying my transmission isbanging into the next gears but when i drove it to them it was shifting fine they said the computer said it had a gear ratio error or something, has this ever happen to anyone out there how can a tranmission go from shifting fine to banginggears
I wouldn't go back to the dealer. The code for "Incorrect Gear Ratio" appears on something trivial as well. Mine once triggered it by low fluid, as little as a half quart. The car went into limp mode and the shift arrow on the instrument panel kept flashing. I took it to an AutoZone, and they read the code with Actron CP9175 OBD-II scanner. I had the code, and I knew I was a bit low on fluid, as I had serviced a CV joint previously and when I disconnected the drive shaft, I had lost about a half quart of tranny fluid. After being topped up, the code never returned.
Is your car still shifting fine? If so, forget the dealer. If you noticed a problem, the dealer should fix it at no charge.
If your 850 is of '93-'95 model, you can retrieve the code by yourself. Let me know if you want to retrieve the code & reset the computer. If it is of '96/'97, visit a local auto parts shop such as AutoZone and have it diagnosed via OBD-II and have them reset the code. The code should turn the check engine light, though.
