Default Transmission Filter? TECH??

Maybe this is a dumb question but is there a Transmission Filter in the 850 Turbo Automatic?

Since I will have the tranny out to do rear main seal, I thought I would drain the torque converter and trans, flush out the cooler and re-fill. If there is a filter I would like to change that also.

None that you can get to. The transmission has to be split in half to find it. It is also very small.

Thanks Tech!

I do not want to be splitting the case since the tranny has been fine since a new PNP switch about 2 years ago. Is there a way to drain the fluid completely with the tranny out?

You can pull the drain plug then pull the converter and let it drain that will get most of it.

I am going to take the Converter to my work and SUCK out the fluid and flush it with kerosene. The tranny I will just drain it. Any idea how much fluid it will need to refill? I am guessing about 6 or 7 quarts? And do you reccomend the "high mileage" ATF's or something else?

Thanks a lot, your expertise and willingness to share is keeping a lot of Volvos on the road. Along with keeping the wife from making me buy her a Honda Element!! YUCK!

Tell your wife the obvious.... they aren't making 850's anymore. Most women I know want to keep stuff because it is not made anymore. They don't care what it is, Go figure!

This maybe a silly question, why flush w/kerosene? How will you get it out? How about filling the drained converter w/proper ATF and remove the top cooler hose and drain while running after fill and refill while running? I use a home made setup styled after the IPD trans hose flush kit.
