Yes. The LED - red light - on the dash blinks for about 15 or 20 seconds. I just bought the car and the remote came w/ it. I assume it is the original.
I will reread some of the posts on this issue and see if I can determine something else I need to do.
I'll let you know if I find some success.

OK I will see if I can come up with anymore as well.
I am just wondering if it is a 960 remote and not a 850.

Maybe the alarm relay.

Default Got my keyless system to work...

OK, I did not check the relay (don't know how) but this is what I did do:
  1. I checked to make sure everthing locks and unlocks with the key. All is well.
  2. I took the remote to the stealer and they checked it for FREE. They said that the lock button did not work but the unlock botton did work.
  3. I printed the TS sheet for the alarm system and started down that this. It lead me to the Remote Receiver behind the left side of the glove box. I tried to test that and think it was bad so I purchased one from our Volvo Grave Yard. The box I pulled from the car had a remote in it so I snagged that as well. I also got another remote from another car there, that had the same box as mine. The s/n om my box ends with BIG.
  4. I installed that box and it still would not reprogram the remotes that I picked up. So, I purchased new batteries and went to the stealer to let them test my new found remotes for FREE and they said both remotes work.
  5. I then went back to the car to try to program the remotes with the receiver and it still did not work. I never got the alarm indicator light on the dash to blink real fast. So, I decided to try the remotes anyway and pow! one of them works. It's the one that I snatched with the box I took.
So, even though I can not get my car to program remotes, the system works because I pulled a receiver and remote from a car in the junk yard.

The next time I'm at the junk yard I will get a relay and see if that fixes my ability to get the car to reprogram the remotes.
