Default Volvo 850 Brakes

Hey guys. Do any of you know how much it would cost to have 4 rotors and 3 calipers replaced on a 1993 volvo 850 GLT?

The price varies by the parts you use, and who does the work. If you have it done by a shop, I would estimate around $700-$800. A good way to figureout a ballpark estimate is to go to a parts site like fcpgroton.com and price out all the parts. Then add about $75 a hour for labor and you should have a good idea. Figure about 3-4 hours for a good brake job. Hope this helps

I was quoted $600 for all four corners rotors and pads at a chain. Did it myself using fcpgroton for $300 and I went with brembo rotors and volvo brake pads. My guess is most shops use the $20 special brake pads. My guess is closer to $1000 to replace the calipers as well unless you DIY (if you replace the rotors don't you also have to replace the pads?). The brakes on my 850 were the first time I had ever done brakes before and I was able to do it without "braking" (haha) anything, no idea what it's like to replace the calipers but if there are anything like the rest of the car it would be easy to do yourself.

I needed a (1) new caliper for the Platinum and it cost $44.00 at NAPA with about a $40.00 core charge. It was a rebuilt OEM Volvo. For rotors I've been buying a drilled set from UCAutoparts in Canada for around $150.00 for all 4 off of eBay. I've also been running Mintex Red pads from FCP which are around $50.00 for the front and rear set plus another $4.00 for the Teflon shims. They have all worked great with a liberal coating of Sil Glyde brake grease. If you are buying from FCP I also use the ATE Super Blue brake fluid and do a brake fluid change along with the other parts.Amongst all of the other good things about the super blue fluid is that you can tell when you have pumped the old fluid out by color.
